These days, family travel is all about the compact sports utility vehicles. These smaller SUVs give families all of the efficiency and maneuverability of cars, making them great when driving in crowded cities or fitting into a garage. But many of these vehicles are also highly capable like bigger SUVs, ready for adventure or a trip out of town. And, if you choose the right compact SUV like the 2017 Ford Escape, it’s sure to be filled with modern gadgets and thoughtful features that make family travel and a busy lifestyle as smooth as possible.
The award-winning 2017 Ford Escape is, indeed, an excellent choice for families and young drivers alike. In addition to driver-assist tools like available Enhanced Active Park Assist and a Lane-Keeping System, the 2017 Escape also features an available hands-free liftgate. This is a class-exclusive feature, not found in any other compact SUV. However, with all of the convenience that the hands-free liftgate adds, we’re not sure how anyone could live without it!
The 2017 Ford Escape hands-free liftgate is activated by a wave of the foot underneath the bumper in combination with the available Intelligent Access key. Once the smart 2017 Ford Escape senses the presence of the Intelligent Access key, it unlocks the liftgate so that all it takes is kicking your foot underneath the rear bumper and the liftgate will open.
When you’re traveling with your hands full—whether with groceries, kids, camping gear, or whatever—having a car that senses your needs is a huge help. You can also adjust the liftgate height on the 2017 Ford Escape, perfect for fitting it into small garages or overhangs.
The foot-activated, hands-free liftgate is just one of the many intelligent and considerate features in the 2017 Ford Escape.
The Ford Escape comes with a standard 168-HP 2.5-liter i-VCT engine with a 170 lb-ft torque rating. Additionally, if you want a more powerful engine option, you can opt for the 179-HP 1.5-liter EcoBoost option with Auto Start-Stop Technology or the 2.0-liter Twin Scroll EcoBoost, which delivers 245 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque. When properly equipped, the 2017 Escape can even tow up to 3,500 lbs. All engines are mated to a six-speed automatic with SelectShift technology.
The fuel economy of the Ford Escape depends on which engine option you go for. The standard engine with front-wheel drive gets 21 mpg in the city, 29 on the highway, and 24 combined. Regardless of what you choose, however, the Escape is still incredibly efficient; even the 245-HP engine with a four-wheel drive system still puts out a rating of 20 mpg in the city and 27 mpg on the highway.
The interior of the Ford Escape was made to be as flexible as it is comfortable and innovative. Smart features like the SYNC 3 infotainment system keep you entertained and connected on the go, while the interior is versatile enough that you can fold down the rear rows to get up to 68 cubic feet of storage space.
The Ford Escape comes with tons of standard safety, including Brake Assist, a Rear Vision Camera, and a full suite of airbags including a Driver’s Knee Airbag. There’s also available tech like the Lane Keeping System and Advanced Cruise Control with Collision Warning. Plus, Advanced Active Parking Assist helps you park more safely and easily than ever.
